Michael Zulli is an American illustrator famous for his collaborations with writer Neil Gaiman in works such as The Sandman, although he started working in the comic industry for Mirage Studios, Marvel, DC Comics and Dark Horse.
Zulli's work is characterized by detailed realism and a hint of the Pre-Raphaelites painters. He was nominated for the "Best Penciller/Inker" Eisner Award, for "The Wake" in The Sandman #70-72.
He started drawing as a kid, four or five years old, and except for a few fine arts courses at a community collage, he is completely self-taught. He works with a huge variety of media including graphite, ink, pastel, watercolor, acrylics, oils, or as he puts it, “just about anything that can make a mark really.
